Kimber Kleven was raised in eastern Iowa, later moving to Nora Springs during her childhood, where she graduated from high school before pursuing college. She grew up in a close-knit family, the third of four children, with a father who worked in agriculture, real estate, and later retired from the Iowa DOT, and a mother who primarily stayed home but also worked locally in town. Her upbringing was deeply rooted in faith and community—her family was actively involved in church, rarely missing a Sunday, and her parents encouraged their children to share their talents through music, reading, and service. These experiences instilled in her the values of hard work, faith, community service, and using one’s gifts to benefit others.
Working to Make a Difference
Kimber Kleven’s professional background is grounded in long-term care and community service. After earning her BA in social work, she began her career at Americana Health Care Center in Mason City, first as an activity coordinator and later as a social worker. Over the years, she has built extensive experience in long-term care and hospice, eventually pursuing a Master’s Degree in Health Care Administration from Des Moines University and becoming a licensed nursing home administrator. Since 2020, she has served at Good Shepherd, where she oversees day-to-day operations, staff hiring and training, compliance with complex regulations, contract negotiations, and union relations. Her leadership has included managing construction projects, such as transforming an abandoned nursing home into a 20-unit assisted living facility, which she considers a point of pride. Through her professional journey, Kimber has demonstrated strong skills in administration, compliance, and team leadership, with a deep commitment to ensuring quality care for residents.
Why Kimber is Running for Mason City Mayor
Kimber Kleven is running for Mayor of Mason City because she believes in making a positive difference in the community. Her professional and volunteer experiences have prepared her to serve as a council leader and an effective servant of the community. In her role as a nursing home administrator, she has gained extensive experience in managing people, finances, regulations, and community partnerships, which she sees as directly transferable to leading the city. Her ability to run council meetings, represent Mason City at official functions, and foster transparent communication between our elected officials and the citizens they represent. Kimber’s motivation stems from her deep love for the city and her desire to serve its citizens by providing steady, collaborative leadership that strengthens community connections and supports Mason City’s continued growth and vitality.
